How is Polish Pottery Created?
The details that go into the creation of a Polish Pottery piece are fascinating. Polish Pottery is created from very special white clay found on the Bobr River in Southwest Poland, in a town called Boleslawiec. Kaolin, is a soft white clay that is famously used in the creation of china and porcelain.
After the clay is found near the river Bobr, in Boleslawiec, (pronounced "bol-les-slavi-etz") it is formed into shapes like plates, bowls, pitchers, and also many complex forms like bunnies, vases, and soap dispensers.
After the form is created, it is painted and then put into a huge oven that uses natural gas. It is fired in these ovens at temperatures in excess of 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. The glaze is both lead and cadmium free.

I love reading about this!
My very first purchase of Polish Pottery was in 1994. We stopped in Poland to visit a relative working there for Ford Motor. My sister in law took me to a pottery warehouse/factory just outside Warsaw. I bought four pieces. Since then I’ve totally filled my kitchen with tableware, baking dishes and other household accessories. None of my items match but that beautiful blue ties it all together. I occasionally purchase new bubble mugs for family members and friends or replacement pieces. Love my Polish Pottery.
Love reading about how the pottery is made. I had no idea it was all hand painted. Each piece is so unique and each piece a work of art.
Thanks for checking out my post! Do you have any questions?
